2006-04Timetable

Zhukovsky is the center of track and field athletics in the Moscow region. Most notable Zhukovsky-born athletes are Yuriy Borzakovskiy, Ekaterina Podkopayeva, Andrew Epishin, Dmitriy Bogdanov and others.

In 2005 a new world class athletics stadium "Meteor" was opened.

The IAAF Council has decided to include the Znamensky Memorial into the IAAF World Challenge on March 14, 2010. The improvement of the Znamensky Memorial status is related to the holding of the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Moscow. The Zhamensky Memorial, the 9th leg of the IAAF World Challenge, will be held in Zhukovskiy on 26 June.

The hammer throw competition will be held as a part of the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge in two days (02 and 03 July).

The Hammer Throw Challenge program (men & women) will be by the following formula:

Saturday, 2 July – Stage One

Each athlete will have three (3) trials - the athletes with the top four results in each event will be eligible to compete in Stage Two on Sunday.
The athletes placed 5th to 8th in each event will be awarded the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge prize money designated for those placing.
Athletes finishing in 5th place and below may count their performances in Stage One towards the overall IAAF World Hammer Challenge Ranking.

Sunday, 3 July – Stage Two

Each athlete will have four (4) attempts. The men's and women's events will be staged simultaneously.
The athletes placed 1st to 4th in each event based on the Stage Two results only will be awarded the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge prize money designated for those placing.
Athletes competing in Stage Two may count their performances in Stage Two only towards the overall IAAF World Hammer Challenge Ranking.

EVENTS

  • Men's Track: 100 m, 400 m (national), 800 m, 3000 st, 10 000 m (national)
  • Men's Field:  High Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin Throw, Hammer Throw
  • Women's Track:  200 m, 400 m, 1500 m, 10 000 m, 100 mH,
  • Women's Field:  Long Jump, Shot Put, Hammer Throw

General information (Geography)

Zhukovsky (Russian: Жуко́вский) is a city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the Moskva River, 40 km southeast of Moscow. The urban-type settlement of Stakhanovo was founded in 1935 from the dacha settlement Otdykh (literally, "Relaxation"). It was named after Alexey Stakhanov - a famous miner in the Soviet Union. Later in 1947 received the town status and renamed to Zhukovsky after the pioneer of aero- and hydrodynamics Nikolai Zhukovsky.
