OSTRAVA (CZE) - The best Central European one day meet, the Ostrava Golden Spike (IAAF World Challenge) launched its 51st edition and confirmed the date May 25 for 2012.
This years edition was a 50th jubilee one with special guests (Uwe Hohn, Grazyna Rabsztyn, Irena Szewinska, Maurice Greene, Donovan Bailey), also one result remained world lead until now, the 400 m hurdles mark of LJ Van Zyl 47.66. The top mark was the 10.76 at the 100 m by Veronica Campbell-Brown (2nd best performer of the year) with all-time best 100 yards split 9.91. VCB promised to the organisers to return in 2012 and try to improve another meet record, the one at 200 m which is already for some years valid. The 22.07 of Jarmila Kratochvilova from 1981. Ostrava is also the only meet on the circuit where Usain Bolt was running every year since 2008. This year he won the 100 m with a 9.91 time.
