The FBK - Games is part of the IAAF World Challenge, together with a.o. Melbourne, Osaka, Athens, Madrid, Daegu and Berlin. In the past toptathletes as Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrel, Sebastian Coe, Ellen van Langen, Marion Jones and of course Kenenisa Bekele and "Mr. Hengelo" Haile Gebreselassie visited Hengelo. In the 2009 edition 8 Olympic champions and 6 World champions performered in the FBK-stadium in Hengelo. Churandy Martina had a great performance by running the 100 meter within 10 seconds. On 30. May 2010 again a lot of topathletes will be present in Hengelo.
The most important international athletic games in the Netherlands has been organized in Hengelo since 1981 every year. Its original name was Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in honour of the best Dutch athlete, who won four gold medals at the 1948 Olympic Games.

May 7, 2010: HENGELO – De 800 meter bij de mannen zou tijdens de komende FBK-Games wel eens kunnen uitgroeien tot een van de absolute hoogtepunten. De Nederlandse toppers Bram Som, Robert Lathouwers en Arnoud Okken nemen het op tegen onder anderen de twee regerend wereldkampioenen van dit moment. De Zuid-Afrikaan Mbalaeni Mulaudzi greep in de zomer van 2009 de mondiale titel outdoor. Begin dit jaar was de Soendanees Abubaker Kaki de snelste bij het WK indoor. 29.4.2010 - HENGELO – FBK Games of Hengelo planned for May 30 is having a new highlight. The organizers announced that in the 110 m hurdles will clash world record holder and olympic winner Dayron Robles of Cuba with reigning world champion Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados. They both should also run against each other on May 19 in Daegu at Korean IAAF World Challenge meet. In Hengelo in the field also top home hurdlers Gregory Sedoc and Marcel van der Westen. According to sources Robles is no longer scheduled to run in Shanghai against home her Liu Xiang on May 23.

Francina "Fanny" Elsje Blankers-Koen (26 April 1918(1918-04-26) – 25 January 2004 (aged 85)) was a Dutch athlete, best known for winning four gold medals at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. She accomplished this as a 30 year old mother of two, during a time when many disregarded women's athletics. Her background and performances earned her the nickname "the Flying Housewife." ...more
Hengelo is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Overijssel. The city lies along the motorways A1/E30 and A35 and it has a station for the International Amsterdam - Hannover - Berlin service.
